What is a proofing gallery?

Trust me, I know how excited you are to see your pictures after your session wraps! With that in mind, I’ve chosen to show you your images as quickly as possible with an online proofing gallery.

A proofing gallery is a collection of all the best images from your session that have undergone preliminary edits. I start curating this gallery by loading your pictures into my editing software and then culling, which is the process of selecting the winners from your session and discarding test shots, duplicates, and images that are unflattering. When that is complete, I typically crop, color correct, and tweak exposure before uploading them into an online proofing gallery and emailing you the link.

Now the ball is in your court to select your favorites! During this process, choose the images that make you smile when you see them – your family’s connection springing into life in one image, your daughter’s no-front-teeth smile in another, the hysterical candid of your son, the detail shot of the way your baby’s hair curls just so – you get the idea. Don’t worry if you have a blemish on your cheek or if your child’s scratched knee from soccer practice is showing – I’ll handle that in the next step.

Once you have chosen your favorites from your proofing gallery, I will do the final edits and finishing touches. This includes light retouching, further color toning, and sometimes removing distracting elements from the background. Essentially, this is when I add an extra oomph to your images. I invest time into each picture that I edit, and the proofing process allows me to focus that energy on the images that truly speak to you.
